Waterman's 014

A beautiful overlay from the early 1900's. This particular model is an eyedropper filler which came to me with a Waterman's No. 5 nib fitted. This is not the correct nib for the pen as it should possess a No. 4. Waterman's only began stamping "14kt" on their nibs from about the 1930s onwards - - well after the production line of this pen. Unusually, my pen is stamped "14" instead of "0514" which could be a misprint. This pen is also custom engraved with "H.M.L. from 214 No. A.L.C." suggesting that it was a gift to someone. Unfortunately, this is NOT a solid gold overlay, rather a gold-filled overlay. Solid gold overlays would be hallmarked. Still, this was a very expensive pen in 1908 at $15.00, which comes out to roughly $450 in 2021! To put that in perspective, a base model No. 14 from the same 1908 catalog retailed for $4.00, or roughly $120 in 2021.
